| Potassium: Maintaining the Balance Price (includes one year of access and CE): US$12 Course Code: 7SENNF-PRV-09-libpot CE: 2.00 Hours. Post Test Score Required for Successful Completion: 80% | |
Course Overview:
Potassium is vital to the body's fluid and electrolyte balance, neuromuscular activity, acid/base balance, and energy utilization. Too much or too little potassium results in dangerous physiological consequences. This program teaches the learner to recognize the normal serum concentration of potassium, describe the function of potassium in the body, identify the factors that influence potassium balance, differentiate between the physiological changes that result from hypokalemia
and hyperkalemia, and identify therapeutic measures to correct potassium imbalance. Numerous scenarios are presented that allow the learner to practice assessing the impact of this electrolyte on client care.
Course Objectives:
After completion of this learning activity, the learner will be able to:
- recognize the normal serum concentration of potassium.
- describe the functions of potassium.
- identify factors that influence potassium balance.
- differentiate between the physiological changes resulting from hypokalemia and hyperkalemia.
- identify therapeutic measures used to correct potassium imbalance.
