Course Overview:
The purpose of this program is to offer a simulation of a psychiatric outpatient medication clinic, allowing the student to make
decisions about assessment data to be collected and interventions
to be undertaken for clients receiving psychotropic medications.
Course Objectives:
During this simulation, the learner will be called upon to:
- assess client response to psychotropic medications.
- identify common side effects of psychotropic medications.
- choose independent actions within the scope of nursing practice to meet client needs.
- assess client compliance with medication.
- assess and plan interventions to meet client needs for information.
- identify laboratory tests associated with safe use of neuroleptics and lithium.
- identify medications commonly used to treat the side effects of neuroleptics.
