Course Overview:
Developing nursing judgment is a long and sometimes difficult process. Assistive personnel, who have limited training, face the need to make judgments about what they are observing and what action they need to take in the clinical area. This program presents two groups of exercises that require the learner to practice exercising judgment in a variety of simulated caregiving situations. In the first exercise, the learner must identify important observations that should be made in fifty patient situations, and determine which observations are significant and should be reported. In the second simulation, the learner "answers" call lights and must use judgment to determine appropriate interventions in twenty-five scenarios. This program is a valuable tool for faculty and clinical leaders who need to assess beginners' judgment skills before they enter the clinical area.
Course Objectives:
By the completion of this program, the learner will be able to:
- identify important observations that should be made when caring for clients with common health care problems.
- determine which observations made during the care giving process are significant and should be reported.
- develop nursing judgment with respect to specific actions (interventions) that may benefit clients with common health care problems.
