Course Overview:

The learner's goal in this game is to discharge all the babies in the newborn nursery by correctly answering questions. Hundreds of randomly sequenced situation-based questions require the learner to apply critical thinking skills in antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal, and newborn nursing. Topics include reproductive anatomy and physiology, fertility, normal pregnancy, discomforts and complications of pregnancy, all stages of labor, vaginal and cesarean birth, routine postpartum care, newborn assessment, and family teaching and support in obstetric nursing.

Course Objectives:

By the completion of this game, the learner will be able to

1. use critical thinking skills in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation related to antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal nursing care of women.
2. use critical thinking skills in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation related to nursing care of the normal and high-risk newborn.
3. describe general population trends and common causes of maternal and infant mortality.
4. answer selected questions related to reproductive anatomy and physiology, fertility, pregnancy, discomforts and complications of pregnancy, all stages of labor, vaginal and cesarean births, routine postpartum care, newborn assessment, and family teaching and support in obstetric nursing.
